Comments: My 93 yr old Dad served with the 1259th Engineer Combat Battalion in Europe during WW II. Does anybody know what the "engineer specific" shoulder patch looks like for this unit? Some background: his unit was established at Camp Pickett by order of XIII Corps. Moved to Fort Pierce U.S. Navy top secret frogman training base as only U.S. Army unit stationed there, attached to XVIII Corps. This base was forerunner of today's Navy Seals. Moved to Camp Jackson & then to LeHavre & Camp Lucky Strike attached to XII Corps. Moved to Marseilles attached to OISE Intermediate Section Communications Zone, Hdqts Allied Expeditionary Forces. Unit had orders directly from Ike to move to Luzon Manilla Bay through Suez Canal to build main hospital in Pacific Theater to prepare for Operation Downfall, invasion of mainland Japan. Atom bomb hit Hiroshima and 1259th orders cancelled and moved to Boston as war ended. Thanks
Admin reply: Unfortunately I'm not showing an insignia patch for this unit in the American Society of Engineers reference. Some units did not have one, or were assigned one years after the war.
Comments: Testing. Evidently our guestbook wasn't allowing people to sign the book. Arghh! So sorry about that. Trying to fix the problem this morning.
Marion
Admin reply: Problem solved. My apologies to everyone whose posts went bye-bye into cyberspace.

Comments: This is to Traci who posted that her grandfather was in HQ&S of the 256th Engineer Combat Battalion. My father was Samuel F Duggan who was the CO of that company. I might have some information re: the 256th that might be helpful to Traci.
Thanks, Don Duggan
Admin reply: Super! I just wrote to you and sent you her email address.

Comments: My Uncle died of wounds on 25May44 with I Co. He was a 2nd LT and my father named me after him. I started researching when I served in the army and he is buried at the Rome/Sicily site. My father new very little and in 1981 he saw his brothers grave stone and placed a wreath every year . I've done a lot of research and I also served in the guard of the 34th. My uncles records were destroyed in the archive fire in St. Louis. I know he went in as private but ended up an 2LT. Is there any way I can find out records that show his rise. He came in with the Ortonvil Mn bunch
Admin reply: Yes, please contact his home state's veteran's admin. Here's the link. This is how I obtained my father's discharge docs.

Comments: TO: Ron Day Hi Ron, Thank you so much for sending your condolences and checking out my dad's website. It was something he put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into! We agree, it was a great tribute to our grandfather. I will copy and send your note to my Uncle David who may have more info for you. All the best to you and your family!

Comments: My dad served in the 160th combat engineers Company B.He was hit with a piece of shrapnel on 8/24/1944 and lost the use of his right arm. This website has given me information about the area he was in when this happened. He never talked much about the war when he came home, so I have been trying to find out more about his journey . Anyone with any info feel free to contact.
