Thanks for a wonderful site. I'm trying to piece together my Grandfather's service record, which I know little about. I identified him in the front row (next to the right fold mark) of a panoramic company photo somewhere on this site, but now I can't find the photo again!

Grandpa was from Tulsa, Oklahoma. His name was Woodrow Wilson Stacy, and that's what appears on his draft card. He later changed it to James Woodrow Stacy, and thats what appears in the Veterans' Death Files, so its not clear to me which name he served under. He was a sergeant (or possibly master sergeant) when he was discharged, on Jan 14, 1946. His enlistment was May 14, 1943. I know he served as an engineer, in both the European and the Pacific theatres.

Thanks again for your wonderful work.

Kate

My father was William E E Moss. He was member of the 313 Engineer Battalion Company A attached to the 88th Infantry.Rome Arno Po Valley. Many letters from Italy. He was from Lubbock Texas. Don't know if he had a nickname during the war His family called him Eldon, one of his middle names. There is a family story about him repairing a tank track during a bridge crossing under fire and earning him the bronze star. Supposedly a big write up about this in a Lubbock paper. No way of knowing for sure.I just would like some more information about his time in the service. We have requested and obtained copies of his medals and commendations. Please help me. Thank you

Admin reply: You can also contact the Lubbock paper and ask them to consult their archives.

My father, Andrew "Hank" Scolastico appears on pages 24 & 32 of:"The History of the 187th Engineer Combat Battalion". On 24, he's the only one with glasses & you can see the big part in his hair. On 32, he's the one kneeling w/ his M-1 at the Bougonville station. He had mentioned to me years ago that he was on the 50 cal the day the Luftwaffe attacked. I have his copy of the book.

Admin reply: Would love to see it!

Thank you so much for this website. I've been trying to find out as much as I can about my grandfather and other relatives who fought in the European Theater in WWII. My grandfather was in the 235th Combat Engineer Battalion, and got four bronze stars - he claimed he went into Germany and saw horrible things but wouldn't tell us any details. I haven't been able to verify some of the stories he told. Really hoping to connect with anybody who may know more about the 235th and where they went. I've got a few pictures I can upload and contribute.

Admin reply: We have quite a bit of info on that unit!

My father was Harry Oscar Peterson, the tentmate of Bill Gentry for the years they were in the Engineers. Over the ensuing years, we were able to visit with Bill, his wife, Colleen, and Peter * * * and wife, who all lived in Yakima, WA. I would be happy to share whatever I can to add to the background of this archive.

Please let me know how I might do that.
