Comments: am writing a book about the temporary American cemetery GELA in Sicily. Over 1,200 men and women killed in the battle for Sicily in 1943 were buried here. Hope to have the book finished nexr year July 2013 for the 70th anniversary of operation Husky. I have all the names of them and also know in what grave the were buried. About 70% of them were repatriated, 30% were buried in Europe and North Africa. Any information and/or pictures are more than welcome

Comments: Re: Robert C. Fonner Update - I see with further exploration that Robert served with the 48th Combat Engineer (C) Regiment, not the 1108th, as I previously indicated. Hope this helps in any research being done!
Admin reply: The 1108th Engineer Group (regiment) consisted of the 48th and 235th Battalions.

Comments: RE: Robert Cole Fonner I wish to inform the members of the 1108th Engineer (C) Group that Robert Cole Fonner passed away on Aug. 12, 2008, in Monticello, IL. I have been doing genealogy research on the Fonner family (my mother's maiden name), and the search for data on Robert yielded the Final Newsletter of "The Scoop from Group", December 2009. If you would like further information on Robert or his family, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Comments: Hello, it's June 6, 2012 and I would always call my Dad, Billy F. Reiter and thank him for his service. He was a PFC in HQ & Service Co. 359th General Service Bn. He enter the Army in Jan. '43, did his bootcamp at Camp Clairborne, LA. He arrived in Scotland July '43, entered the Liberation of France 6/6/44 assigned to an infantry that came ashore at Dog Green, Omaha Beach. Dad was a M1 Sharpshooter, a Truck Driver, Light 345, ran the Red Ball for a while until they returned him to the "pipeline". A Army buddy, PFC Horace Davis, visited Dad before he passed away and I ask Mr. Davis if he knew what Dad did on D-Day. He said he had a load of TNT for the Combat Engineers who made it ashore to use to clear more beach obstacles. He said the trucks' machine gunners name was PFC John Walker, infantry group unknown but he believe he was with the 29th Infantry. Dad separated from the Army in Dec. 1945. His s/n was 35 600 222.
Admin reply: Hello, we also have info on the 359th on the forum. Stop on by. All the best to you and yours!
