Comments: Looking for my dad's records. I know he was at Camp Bowie in early '42, from there to Scotland, then amphib. landings in N. Africa and Sicily. Up through Italy and France, ending the war in Munich. I don't know what outfit he was in, but I have his dogtags. How can I search "backwards"? When I approached the Nat. Archives the first time, they sent me a copy of my own records! How do they get from a combat engineer in 1942 to a ground pounder in 1966?? Please point me in the right direction!! Daniel Jennings
Admin reply: Info can be found at the local county level or his state Veteran's Admin office. This is how I obtained a copy of my dad's discharge papers.

Comments: Haven't checked this site in a while, and to let you know that my Father, Guy H. Mills is doing well and will have his 92nd Birthday on Sept. 29,of this year. I think he is the only veteran of his 49th Engineer Corp from WWII left. He is still going strong despite the heart and hearing problems he now has.
He is proud of the book written by Mr. Carr about the Battallion and has his copy of it.
Admin reply: Hi Barbara: Nice to hear from you and all the best to your dad!

Comments: I was a member of the 1264th Combat Engineers from the time of its assignment to Camp Bowie, Texas in 1943 until the end of World War II in Europe in 1945. I participated in the construction of Hodges Bridge across the Rhine River at Bad Godesburg, Germany. I was dischared from active duty in 1946 and completed my studies at Texas A&M College, graduating in 1948. I returned to active duty at the onset of the Korean War, serving as a Regular Army Officer, and retiring from active military service in 1979. I then served as Vice Chancellor of The Texas A&M University System until 2001. I currently live in Bryan, Texas and would appreciate hearing from any former members of the 1264th.
Admin reply: So pleased to have you here. Thanks for joining our forum too. I look forward to learning more from you, sir.

Comments: I recently completed reading We the 48th,and was impressed by the beautifully detailed events chronicled in this most moving story. My Dad, Blanchard Olson, served in the 48th, and would have been most proud of those who preserved this chapter of World WarII. I am now in the process of searching for copies of of this book. I can't think of a better gift for "Brownie's" descendants.
Admin reply: I recently obtained a "real" copy of the book. I agree, it's a superb chronicle and very detailed.

Comments: Found a little more about my Uncle Paul Roy Stokes. My 84 yr old dad believes he started out in Fort Leonard Wood in April 1944, moved on to Louisiana, before going to Southern France. He thinks he was part of the 7th Army which was part of VI Corp. Lots of information out there.
Admin reply: Excellent. Glad to hear you are discovering more information.

Comments: Hi All, just starting to do research on my Uncle Paul Roy Stokes who served as an Engineer. His enlistment dates were 27 Apr 1944 through 4 Jan 1946. I am pretty sure he served in France but do not know his unit or really any other information. Thanks for having these websites. They are great information.
