Captain John Fallon of the 36th Engineers, recently read this book and sent the following review to me:

I read a lot of books about Normandy and a couple about Dragoon in Southern France but this is a winner - Eisenhower's Thorn on The Rhine by Prefer. It starts lucky enough with the godawful fighting in Rambervillers and Remiremont but not in detail because he is telling about the fight on the Rhine. Our Regiment fought continuously with the 117th Recon, and our artillery, the 83rd Chemical mortar battalion and the entire thing was blurred by the fighting in the North, Now this book tells almost nothing about those units but when I read it we were there. It was our story of 44-45 and I hope others from the 36th, the 117th, and the 83rd can read it.
