My Grandpa, O'Neill Edward Clark served in WWII, he was with the 5th Engineers Special 336th Combat Battalions. I recently read a short letter he wrote years ago describing some of his time spent in the war and he now has Alzheimer's and I would like to know more but he isn't able to tell me... I am hoping to find out as much as I can. My great Aunt, his sister Jane Paige also served in WWII, she was a nurse.

I wish the gal that made the enquiry could scan her Grandfather's letter and share it with all of us.

It would be wonderful to read the contents.

To Clarkgal,

Thank You for taking the time and making the effort to share those documents!!!

Thank goodness your Grandfather had the stamina to write what he did at the period of his life when he was able to!

What horrible memories of sights and smells and everything - to have to carry with you from your youth forward!

Your Grandfather was a True Hero!

My Grandpa is in the middle in the top row. :heartpump: His alzheimer's has gotten worse and he's really confused lately. It hurts my heart to see him in the state he's been in, but no matter what, he still is and ALWAYS will be my #1 hero! Thank you Jean for the kind words about him. He is truly the best man I've ever known, which is why I named my son after him, and I hope and pray my son can live up to his Great Grand-dad's name!

Amen to that. Such a difficult thing to go through. So many of us have been there and done that, so feel your heartache. :armata_PDT_23:

Well... Sadly, my precious Grandpa left this earthly world late Wednesday night, the 9th of December. He just turned 91 last month. My sweet Great Aunt Jane, that served with him, cried beside his casket saying, "Now I can't protect you. I can't keep you safe anymore." She turned 94 in June and joined the army as a nurse to 'take care of' her baby brother. The service was beautiful. We had family from New York, California, New Mexico, Texas, and all over Oklahoma. Friends and family told stories about him and I got to learn a lot about him in his younger years. He left a positive impression on everyone he came in contact with. Rest in peace sweet Grandpa of mine! :smwave:

I am SO sorry to hear this. My condolences to you and your family on this huge loss. He sounded like such a great person and I hope you will find comfort in all the things that were said to you and yours about your Grandpa. Yes, he left a wonderful impression on everyone and that will never be forgotten. He will also live on, on this forum, thanks to you.

Here's to your grandpa! :14_2_107:
