I think that John Ford's "The Battle of San Pietro shows the crossing of the Rapido River near Cassino. It has some of the best action scenes !
Several of "my vets" have mentioned that movie too. Will have to find some time to watch it in the near future.

I have a DVD collection that features a section on the Battle of San Pietro. I had never heard of the place before this, but sounds like it was a pretty tough fight for both soldiers and civilians. Is the John Ford film you are referring to an actual movie (ala Hollywood stars) or a Documentary?

Daddy: Let's hope that some of the great movies that were produced lately will inspire more people to create even more fantastic movies of this caliber. For me, I will be eagerly waiting.
If I had tons of money, I would try and make a movie about my engineers.

Marion,
I'm with you!
I think the best chance of this (better WWII films) happening remains.... as long as our generation (Baby Boom) is making them, for it is most important to us that our Fathers be represented accurately in the war efforts.
I'm now pretty certain that I own the film you posted the link for (about Monte Cassino) by John Ford and the Signals crew. I will attempt to shake my brain out and remember which DVD it's on and loan it to you if you wish. ![]()
Happy Sunday!
