This is the first time I heard about these trees. That is quite a story and it's amazing how many there were. One good thing is, the gentleman is going to work to save the remaining ones. Thank God they weren't all cut down.

In our Ardennes, we have also trees with "GI graffiti".

I hope they're not chopped down too some day.

It's not the trees which are dangerous, it is cars and their drivers. The fools who to rolled to 130 instead of 90 there are built in...

To put crash barriers would have been more suited (but good, a blow of chain saw costs certainly cheaper). Sorry but, I find it really disgusting to have slaughtered all these trees, all these souvenirs. souvenirs which do not have no price! £ $ ù ? * § bureaucrats. I am really angry! :armata_PDT_19:

I have to find this link and these photos :

Verow, this is so typical of bureaucracy! Instead of addressing the problem (in this case - stupid drivers), they take the easy way out and cut down the trees! I do not blame you for your anger. I think this angers all of us. People are SO short-sighted. They just see today. They do not look at the history, nor do they look at the future. Disturbing, indeed! :machinegun:

Eck. I'm peeved at people who have to hack down an old peacefully growing tree. Happens alot around here. I think some people just have destructive urges and trees can't argue.

God bless those heroes who suffered and died, for plain folks, like you and me.

I'm no tree hugger but for these trees, I'll make an exception.

If the trees have already been felled, would it not have been possible to preserve the trunks and use them in

a memorial?

Bureaucratic vandalism I call it!

Danged Colin, I hadn't thought about that. That's a good idea!
