Don't know how many people are aware of the wonderful work of the Fisher Foundation.

They build homes on the grounds of VA & Military medical centers so families can stay free of charge & be close to their loved ones while they are hospitalized.

They had a ground breaking ceremony on thursday for a new Fisher House at the VA Hospital here in West Roxbury Mass.

No I wasn't aware of this at all. What a wonderful organization. Just goes to show you how much good there is in this world.

For many years my mother crocheted & knitted many afghans for the vets at the West Roxbury VA. A group of local women were involved in the endeavor - the purpose was to provide each vet with a unique handmade blanket so they'd have something besides a generic institutional one. It was also to show that people cared about them, thought about them, and were grateful. She would've loved to have known about the new Fisher House there.

My cousins who grew up in West Roxbury, ask their children to donate to a charity instead

of giving them Christmas presents, so I'm gonna bring this to their attention at Thanksgiving dinner this year. Wouldn't it be great to give money to this wonderful program rather than buy things we really don't need!

Mr. Fisher was quite a guy! He was made an "honorary veteran of the armed forces" and

also recd the Presidential Medal Of Freedom. What an example of what one individual can accomplish & give back!
