Received this email a while back and just started doing some research. I will post as I find. Here's the letter:
He was an officer in the Hq & Hq Co. 51st Major Port; the Hq 13th Port; and the 524th Port Battalion. He was an engineer and Chemical Officer. His name was Hugh C. Ryan and he was a Captain, then Major. If you could tell me where those ports were located and any other info about the Chemical Officers(I know that could be too much information, though), I would greatly appreciate it. Dad was fromSault Ste. Marie, MI, but joined the Army in Cleveland, OH. I'm in awe of your contributions to ourmilitary!Thank you, in advance,Cheryn Ryan

Found this interesting site. The gentleman has also written a book, which I downloaded to my Kindle today. Hoping to find some interesting info.

I just sent him an email too, asking if he has ever come across her father's name during his research.
