I'm looking for information on the 207th Combat Engineer Bn during WWII. My dad and his best friend both served in this unit (both now deceased). They were involved in construction of the Hodges Bridge and for several months I've attempted to piece together the 207th path across Europe. I do have the Hodges Bridge booklet and a map which tracked some of the trek. This is an effort to pass on my father's service to his country to my brothers, kids and grandkids. History is fleeting and unless it is recorded in a timely fashion, it is often lost forever. I have been in contact with Gene Fiducia's daughter and she has been very helpful. If there are other sources of help, I would like to hear about them. Particularly, if there are any former members of this outfit still around, their input would be greatly valued.

Hi:

Welcome. Just a quick question, for I'm working right now... Did Gene pass away? Several of us have written or emailed and no response, but the email doesn't bounce; just no answer.

Thanks.

Marion

In an e-mail dated 2/20/2010, Debbie wrote her father Gene Fiducia passed away December 3rd 2009. Debbie has been monitoring her dad's e-mail and came across mine from October 29th.

It is unfortunate to lose a valuable resource like him and while I am sure Debbie is still going through the grief process, she has been gracious to me in providing information and encouragement.

My prayer goes out to her and Gene's family for their loss and am thankful for Debbie's willingness to continue to honor her father's work.

Larry

Ah, just as I suspected. So sorry to hear this. Gene and I had been friends for over five years, and he sent me his history on tape. We used to talk quite frequently and I shall miss yet another dear friend.

I shall post a goodbye in our farewell section later today, and let his friends know, as I have received many inquiries as of late, and no one had been notified.

Thanks,

Marion

It would appear the 207th's page is down. Don't know if this is temporary or permanent?!?

This website was down in October so probably is no longer in operation.

Thank you for all the other sources. I have looked through them and found a lot of useful information.

Yes, I believe that site was run by a WWII vet. How sad no one jumped in to take care of it for him and keep the legacy alive. Were there no kids to pick up the slack or friends, etc? What a shame.

From Mary Benz. Sorry I didn't get this up for the anniversary. Was one day late in seeing and posting this for you and everyone else. Here ya go...

James PLEASE email Marion the History of the 207thh Combat Engineers today. Thank you. Big brother.

Marion If at all possible can you please post this June 19th. Why because many of the 207th and 300th and Navy personell were on the LST 523 and were injured or killed 6-19-44. 1/2 miles from the beach in Normandy. The LST hit a mine and was split in two pieces. Our uncle Master Sgt. Edward J. Sullivan was killed instantly.

The 300th website has a history of the LST-523 and our uncle's records are also posted on that site. Look it up and read what happened. The 207th does not have a webiste.

In their honor I thought it would be nice if the history of the 207th was posted this day June19th. Please email me when the history is posted. Thank you.

Thank you for their memorial & I am sure other family members of the 207th will appreciate this also.

Ah, received this, this week. Wonderful map. Many thanks!

Hello Ms. Chard,

I came across your website this weekend after searching for information on the 207th Engineer Combat Battalion. You see I was helping to clean up some storage at my mother-in-law's home, and we came across the attached map in the attic from her husband who passed away quite a few years ago. I see that you already have a brief written history, and this seems like an appropriate companion. I scanned the map as a PDF, but it was way too large to email in that format, so I converted to the attached jpg. Perhaps there's a way to compress it as a PDF, but I am not familiar with it.

Best regards,

Greg Welter

Very cool map! What does it say by the sinking ship? I couldn't make it out exactly.

Todd, I looked at the LARGER image that I have on my hard drive and it looks like it say, "2nd Increment".
