I'm looking for a description of the origin and meaning of the Engineers' badges(I.e. the seahorse, crown, star) for both the 540th and 2832 2nd Bn.
I appreciate any guidance you can provide.......thank you.
Mark

Hi: We were having problems with the old forum. Thus, I wasn't receiving notifications regarding new posts. Just saw this after converting the old forum from MyBB to WPForo, January 2026. Thanks for understanding.

Since the engineers were trained as an amphibious unit, they adopted the seahorse logo. The 36th Engineers also have a very similar logo. In fact, they both trained together before being sent overseas to Europe.

I look forward to chatting with you.

The significance:

  • The Red and White (Hat) Cord – designates the Corps of Engineers
  • The Seahorse – the Emblem of the Amphibious Forces
  • The Crown – designates the unit as the King of the Amphibious Forces
  • The Five Points of the Crown – each point represents a landing on a hostile shore
  • The Nine Points on the back of the Seahorse – each point represents the campaigns the 540th participated in, in WWII

This was taken from my dad's page. I knew there was specific information, just couldn't remember where it was. 😉
