208th Daughter:

I just spoke to Dad and he belives he knew your father. Did he pull a stint as the Batallion Colonel's driver? That's what Dad recalled.

Here's a pic of Dad circa 1944. Maybe your dad will recognize him. It is not the greatest of pics. Taken froma book he was cameo'd in.

well... back to chores on this end...

Hi, I'm back! Here is a photo of my father, Harold O. Nelson of the 208th Engineer Combat Battalion, WWII. My Dad was 35 when he was drafted, and in this photo, he just turned 38. He married three years later, and had four daughters. We had a whole lot of fun with Dad. :heartpump:

My father passed away in 1976 although he is still with me in my heart.

This photo was taken at a lake near Berlin in 1945. Handy Randy's father said that it appeared that my Dad was standing on a pier on Schwansee (sp?) Lake which was near Berlin.

I finally uploaded the photo! :armata_PDT_37:

It's awesome that the two of you can share some history regarding your fathers. :armata_PDT_37: And thanks for that photo in Germany.

Your dad like mine, married late in life. My dad married my mom when he was 38 and they had me the following year. I too had a lot of fun with my dad. So many wonderful memories. But as with your dad, much too short.

The other day I was looking at his photo and wondering what he would have looked like if he was still living. Well one thing I know for sure; his smile would have never aged... :armata_PDT_01::wub:

When the 208thECB was stationed in Berlin after the war, they played a football game against the 82nd Airborne. Churchill and Marshall Zhukov were in attendance at the game. According to another 208th son, the 208th beat the 82nd and Marhall Zhukov cheared for the 208th because they were in red. :drinkin:

My 208th friends from Kansas and Missouri did not share these details with me, I will check this out with them.

Here is a photo: Lew Grace is on the left (group of three). I don't know who the others are.

Question: when you find a photo on the Internet, do you have to get permission from the owner to use it yourself? I found another photo of that football game that is better than the two that I have in my collection.

Hey kid (we still are you know): :drinkin:

Standard procedure is to ask permission to use a photo, but it is also acceptable to place the photo on a site as long as you give credit (if it is known).

This is always the case if you are using a known photographer's photos, but many sites will plainly state their policies on their home page. Many of the WWII sites will say something to the affect, "Feel free to use these photos...", or "for public use..."

You will also see some photos with copyrights right on the photo.

I hope that helps you.

Same goes for articles etc. I have hundreds of copied articles on my site, but make sure I copy the author's name and other pertinent info along with them. :pdt34:
