I just returned from my third reunion with the 36th out in PA. Four days of heaven for me and that is no exaggeration.

Can't wait to see your site. It will be so nice to add another engineering web to our great network. As you stated, there aren't a lot of engineering webs, nor info on the internet.

Thank you for your kind welcome! I learned about Robert Martin 208th Com B from a 208th son back in August. The award he received is awesome, I bet some of the other guys from the 208th will be happy for him, and jealous too.

Since I've committed myself to create a web page about the 208th, if any of you experienced webmasters can give me hints on how or where to get a web site, I would appreciate it. I've worked on web pages before: layout, text, photos, so that part isn't daunting to me. And, I have enough information and photos to start telling their story....although I want lots more!

Well, you've come to the right place because I am a computer consultant and part of my experience is hosting and design, so I can probably steer you in the right direction. Email me in private and I can give you some solid guidance.

Finally a Google search paid off!

I think it is a great idea setting up a 208th ECB site! My Dad is Sgt Robert M. Martin, Bravo Co, 2nd Platoon, who was referenced above, is doing well here in Southwest PA.

If anyone has email contacts for other 208th ECB vets, I'm sure he'd love to touch base with them. We have a lot of JPG's take of 4 or 5 maps Dad has of "The Fighting Dozers" travel from Normandy to Berlin which we'd be glad to share for the website.

One of the maps has a complete listing of names, ranks and 1945 addresses for the 208th members. Others are detail drawings of various structures they put up along the rivers. We have posted some of the stuff on little discussion group I stood up on Yahoo: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheFightingD...ineerBattalion/ . It is member only right now, but click on join and I'll provide access.

I tried to upload and insert a few of our JP's but they were all over size limits apparently.

Got any sugestions on sizing them down? I'm still in the baby end of the swimmng pool when it comes to tech. All were taken wth my Kodak digital and are just over 1 meg.

Also - would you prefer that I post some jpg's here and there on this thread or start a 208th thread in the chat room?- or maybe you would eventually rather explore a 208th ECB "TheFighting Dozer" unit history section where folks might more easily access them? Just lemme know your desires!

Lastly I can send you an email with some examples of the maps and 208th member info if you'd like to review first to get a feel for things.

I don't know what photo programs you have, but all have ways to resize your photos. The reason I have limits is because server space is always precious and it costs money, so to help that along I've had to enforce some laws. If I didn't people would be loading photos that were 2000 X 3000 and/or images that were 2 or 3 or 4 megs. Therefore I ask folks to do some homework before they get here. Hey I'm an ex-school teacher and I always expect people to do their homework.

Posting photos right here is fine, or start another post in the Engineer section. That is cool also. The Chat Room is just for instant chatting and I hope it will be a fun place for everyone here.

You're doing great so far and I bet that within a few weeks you'll be a seasoned VI Corps Forum Veteran!

208th ECB Daughter

Thanks and I appreciate the size issue re: the pics.

I have delved into the deeper waters and found my MS Office has a photo editor and I was able to down size pic of 208th Daughter 's Da's name from our maps.

I'm going to attach to this message one of the overall 208th ECB map shots - Normandy to Deutchland - then go give Dad a hand with some chores.

BTW the back of these maps has the whole chronology of the 208th so I may look at transcribing it for the good of the order - on a rain or snowy day of course...

Maybe you and 208th Daughter can let me know how you'd like to go from here, but I think with all the maps, bridge drawings, unit chronology and names, etc. we ought to have the makings of a pretty nice summary of the Fightin' Dozers that would make our Dah's proud.
