This gentleman, Carl "Bud" Bolt has a wrench museum, and it also stated he was a former World War II mechanic.
So tonight I sat down, went to his website and emailed him. I hope he will write back.

VERY cool site M1! 
I'd love to visit in person. I've got all
my grandfather's tools from the early 1900s and also all my Dad's.
My father had an enormous tool box & I've carefully put most everything
in there. I bought some naval jelly & one of my many winter "projects"
is gonna be to spiff up a few tools that need some TLC.
I have some gigantic wrenches & alot of other stuff I've got no clue what
they're for.
