This sounds awesome - and it's a story I hadn't heard of before. It is the story of the German POWs that were used to clear millions of land mines from the Danish coast. The movie focuses on a small group of young (and I do mean young) POWs that had to clear a certain beach for 40,000 or so mines. When they were done, they could go home - not everyone made it. Looking forward to watching it!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3841424/

Sir Ridley Scott is attached to direct a film about the Battle of Britain.

The 79-year-old British filmmaker - who is renowned for his work on sci-fi films, 'Blade Runner, 'Prometheus' and 'Alien' - has reportedly teamed up with 20th Century Fox to helm the World War II movie which is based on the historical battle.

According to Deadline, Scott will work closely with its screenwriter Matthew Orton, who penned WWII drama 'Operational Finale' starring Oscar Isaac, on the project.

It is not yet known what direction the script will take but the Battle of Britain is centered from 10 July until 31 October 1940 when the British Royal Air Force (RAF) successfully defended the UK from the invading German Air Force (Luftwaffe) as the Nazis tried to cripple and the conquer the country with a bombing campaign known as the Blitz.

The film rights were purchased by Fox last year and Scott Free is down to produce alongside Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, with Steven Asbell on board for Fox.

Steven Spielberg's 'Bridge of Spies' writer, Matt Charman, will executive produce the film. He has worked with Orton on 'Guiding Lights' back in 2015.

Meanwhile, Orton is currently writing political thriller 'Reason of State', with Scott in charge of Sony's 'All The Money In The World' - a drama about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III. In addition to 'The Cartel' and his next movie to hit cinema screens is 'Alien: Covenant' which is released on May 19 followed by its sequel scheduled for 2018.

Scott - who is married to Costa Rican actress-and-producer Giannina Facio - also worked as a producer on 'Blade Runner 2049', the Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel to his 1982 cult classic.

PFC Desmond T. Doss

Hello Everyone,

Wanted to bring to your attention today, if you have not heard about it, of a new film that is to be released on November 4th, 2016 entitled "Hacksaw Ridge". This film is to portray the remarkable story of Medal of Honor winner PFC Desmond T. Doss. His award carries with it a couple of distinctions, the first being he was the only medic to be awarded the MoH in World War II. There were many deserving of the award but the army brass at the time had a certain "prejudice" or "reluctance" to give the award to medics, the brass could not discount his actions of May 1945 though. The second distinction is that PFC Doss is the very first conscientious objector ever to receive the MoH. He preferred the term "conscientious cooperator" though, for he gladly wanted to serve his country but because of his strong religious beliefs could not carry a weapon or kill anybody. Making him a medic was the solution.

I am anxiously waiting to see this film, hopefully they have presented this hero's story well. Time will tell. Have a good one everybody!

It's the definitive history of 19th Engineers, who were among the first American soldiers to engage in combat against the German and Italian armies in World War II. The documentary will help perhaps explain what troubled Alice's uncle Gustaf about the war. World War II Magazine recently said "(the 19th Engineers) these guys were involved in a couple combat meat grinders that were sure to cause psychological casualties". In other words, what they saw was grim, and predictably lethal. There is one man still alive from "C" company, who may still remember your Uncle.

U.S. Army combat engineers of World War II – battle survivors of Kasserine Pass and Rapido River fiascos – share candid and cutting war memories with the son of a former comrade in search of his father’s war story.

These men remind us that World War II could be a tragic affair for the American soldier, along with all who served in the conflict. Soldiers of this unit took a pounding, losing men everywhere they marched in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Some would say they were a ‘hard luck’ outfit, given their staggering losses. After the war – common to returning combat veterans – reintegration to a post-war America was another battle. Commanded by generals Patton, Bradley and Keyes, their contributions are recognized as pivotal in American military history.

This documentary features previously unpublished, private collection war photography from frontline combat. Images and descriptions of war in this film are graphic and intended for mature audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.

The creator writes of his father, Clayton Nelson, “The top shelf of his closet held a shoebox with dozens of photographs and military paperwork related to the seminal event of the 20th Century. The photos of him revealed a shift from a smiling youngster, to a hardened man. As a kid, I could see in my Dad’s eyes a story that his mouth would obediently resist. But he died before he was ready to talk in detail about it. Then, after a search, I located the men he soldiered with in World War II. These men – his brothers in arms – uncles to me in a sense, would share that story.
